BETWEEN FLUSH & FLAT BROKE
We’ve all been there: sometimes you have enough money, other times your salary has come to an end, but the month still has days – or longer – to go. And often your wallet is the only silent witness to what’s happening in your financial life.
Between Flush & Flat Broke was an exhibition in which experiences about dealing with money were shared using the wallets of well- and lesser-known Rotterdam residents and others. Behind every wallet, there’s a story. Sometimes it’s a success story, but it can also be a tale of money woes.
Among the participants were those who grew up in poverty with little money, got into debt themselves or faced greater setbacks. The stories they shared bore testament to their fighting spirit, courage and gratitude. In short, inspiring stories about dealing with money, told from a very personal perspective.
In addition to the displayed wallets telling of the fortunes and misfortunes of Rotterdam residents and others, a game element in the exhibition made it clear that most of us find ourselves walking a thin line between these two extremes. In the game, you could influence whether you ended up with money or flat broke.
